Auburn moved up a spot to No. 22 in the BCS rankings Sunday, a week after checking in at No. 23 in the season’s first poll.

The Tigers also moved back into the Associated Press poll, checking in at No. 25 after their 41-23 win over Ole Miss on Saturday.

Auburn (6-3, 4-2 SEC) moved out of the poll after a 45-10 loss to LSU last week. It was ranked No. 23 the week before.

The Tigers remained unranked in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll but received enough votes to come in 27th, 11 spots better than last week.

The USA Today poll is one of the three components in the BCS rankings, along with the Harris Interactive poll and a composite computer ranking.

Auburn came in 18th in the computer rankings — falling three spots — and was ranked No. 25 in the Harris poll, moving up five.

The Tigers are the sixth-highest SEC team in the BCS rankings, behind No. 1 LSU, No. 2 alabama, No. 7 Arkansas, No. 9 South Carolina and No. 18 Georgia.

Receiver matters
Auburn head coach Gene Chizik said that even though freshman Sammie Coates dressed out and warmed up before the Ole Miss game Saturday, the plan remains to redshirt him.

Coates underwent offseason foot surgery and was expected to miss most — if not all — of his true freshman season.

Chizik also said Trovon Reed was full-go against the Rebels, even though the redshirt freshman played sparingly and didn’t catch any passes.

Reed sat out three games with a shoulder injury before returning against LSU last week to catch two passes for 26 yards.

“We have certain things going into games that we want to do with different guys,” Chizik said. “Again, you’ll see him more and more as we go.”

Play the ball
Chizik said coaches have placed “a huge emphasis” on their cornerbacks and safeties playing the ball in the air instead of the man this season.

“We were so poor at that in 2010,” Chizik said. “They’ve done a really nice job. I’m not saying they do it every time the way we’d love to see it be done, but it’s been done much better.”

Chizik pointed out T’Sharvan Bell’s interception of Randall Mackey on Saturday as an example of adjusting to the ball in the air, as well as Neiko Thorpe’s two picks on the year.

Freshman Erique Florence also adjusted back to an underthrown ball to knock away a potential big-gainer against the Rebels.

Passing craze
Clint Moseley’s four touchdown passes against Ole Miss marked the seventh time since Gus Malzahn took over the offense in 2009 that Auburn has thrown for four or more touchdowns in a game, a span of 36 contests.

The Tigers managed four passing scores in a game only seven times from 1996 to 2008, a span of 163 games.

Practice schedule
Auburn is taking Sunday through Tuesday off before returning to the field Wednesday and Thursday.

The Tigers are scheduled for a Friday morning walkthrough and another off-day Saturday before getting back into their regular game week routine next Sunday.
