Former Auburn All-American defensive back Buddy McClinton has been selected to the Southeastern Conference 2011 Football Legends Class, the league office announced today.

The Legends will be honored at this year’s SEC “Weekend of Champions,” which culminates with the SEC Football Championship Game on Sat., Dec. 3 at the Georgia Dome.

A native of Montgomery, Ala., McClinton lettered for the Tigers from 1967-69. McClinton is Auburn’s all-time career interception leader with 18.

In 1969, McClinton intercepted nine passes, which remains an Auburn record, and was named to seven All-American teams as a safety. He started every game in his career, and was named to both the CoSIDA Academic All-American team and the Academic All-SEC Team as a senior.

He earned All-SEC honors in each of his three varsity seasons for the Tigers.

Softball announces 2012 schedule
The Auburn softball team will open its 2012 schedule February 9 in the first of nine consecutive home games to begin the season.

The Tigers’ 2012 schedule features 13 teams that advanced to NCAA Regionals last season, seven teams that reached Super Regionals and five teams that advanced to the NCAA Women’s College World Series (WCWS) in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Auburn begins the 2012 season against alabama State on Feb. 9 before hosting the Tiger Invitational tournament from Feb. 10-11 at Jane B. Moore Field.

The Tigers open Southeastern Conference play on the road against LSU on March 14 before traveling to Athens to play Georgia on March 16-18. Auburn opens its home SEC slate against Kentucky on March 23-25.

The 2012 SEC Tournament will be played May 10-12 in Tuscaloosa. NCAA Regional play runs May 17-20, with Super Regionals played May 24-27. The Women’s College World Series will run May 31-June 6.

Tigers begin three-match home stand
The Auburn volleyball team begins a three-match homestand that spans the next two weeks as a pair of SEC Western Division rivals come to town this weekend.

Friday night is the “All Auburn, All Orange” match as LSU visits for a 7 p.m. first serve, and the Tigers welcome Arkansas at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Admission to both matches at the Student Activities Center is free.

Fans are encouraged to wear orange for Friday’s “All Auburn, All Orange” match. Students will receive extra Spirit and Ignited points for attendance at Friday’s match. Sunday’s match against Arkansas will feature a post-match autograph session with the Tiger players and coaches.

Auburn swim/dive to host Penn State
The Auburn men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will join forces for the first time this season as they welcome the Penn State Nittany Lions for a Friday dual meet.

Diving begins at 3:15 p.m. and the swimming portion of the meet gets underway at 4 p.m. at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center.

Auburn’s men (1-0 , 1-0 SEC) will be competing at home for the first time this season. The Tigers breezed to victory in their opening meet, winning 15 of 16 events in a 218-82 victory over SEC rival LSU on Oct. 21.

On the women’s side, the Tigers (2-0, 1-0 SEC) look to keep building on their early season momentum after posting numerous strong swims in wins over Arkansas and Notre Dame.
