Almost no one expected Auburn to be sitting at 7-1 and No. 7 in the BCS standings today. Even the most optimistic Auburn fan would have believed last August that a 9-3 record in Gus Malzahn’s first season as head coach would be a remarkable accomplishment. But a funny thing happened along the way. Auburn started winning and kept on one winning, stumbling just once. And with the two biggest games of the season ahead, those modest summer expectations are long gone. Nobody wants to go 9-3 now.
